What is Congress?

Congressional Debate mimics an actual Congress session. Competitors get to try on the roles of senators, and prepare cases for pieces of legislation. League tournaments have 6 pieces of legislation available 2 weeks before the tournament. Invitationals can have more that 6 pieces of legislation.

Topics can include foreign policy, health, minimum wage, term limits, and education. You are put into a room with 10 to 15 other competitors and a Presiding Officer who  controls the round. The goal of the chamber is to get through all pieces

of legislation and either pass them or not. As a competitor, you give a 3 minute speech followed by 1 minute of cross examination.
