HI requires the performer to choose a single humorous piece. HIs typically have many exaggerated characters, although one or few characters also work. Dialogue scenes work best if you decide to do many characters.
If you decide to perform multiple characters, the method to switch between them is called popping. The goal is to mimic the way a camera switches between angles to show multiple characters in a conversation. This involves quick movements into small but distinctive poses and facial expressions.
For example, you may pop between a character that is shy, and therefore has his shoulders hunched, feet turned inward, and arms crossed, to a character that is arrogant and outgoing, in which her shoulders are held back, feet firmly apart, and hands on her hips. Because these poses are simple and close to each other, it is much easier to make the quick transitions that popping calls for.
These transitions may be hard to imagine, so please feel free to contact one of our Varsity members for help!
